What is LC3(Lemesos City Cooling Challenge)?
According to the Climate City Contract, LC3 is the first of hundreds of small and larger projects that aim to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions in the Lemesos Municipality by 2030. LC3 is a pilot project intended to test solutions related to reducing energy consumption in buildings, promoting city-level green solutions and small-scale RE sources.
. It is a coordinated effort to strengthen bottom-up decision making capacity, initially in the Lemesos Municipality, with the aim of co-designing solutions that support city warming reduction, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Innovative approach based on the co-design solution workshops, in the Lemesos Commons the evaluation of pilot actions with upscaling potential and the more accurate calculation of greenhouse gas emissions in the City of Lemesos.
Pilot interventions in public and private buildings & spaces
aiming at reducing the city’s temperature which can then be extended to the broader area of CoL and adopted by other cities with similar characteristics.
Participatory co-design solutions workshops
through a systemic model based on the active participation of local government, institutions, professional groups and citizens through co-design solutions workshops.
The Lemesos Commons
The solutions provided by co-design solutions workshops are analyzed and discussed by the “Lemesos Commons”, a group in which representatives of the stakeholders participate and examine the feasibility of implementing the solutions.
Mission for a climate-neutral Lemesos
Lemesos is one of the pioneering European cities selected to participate in the European Union’s mission of 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030, also known as the Cities’ Mission. The NetZeroCities network of cities aims for its members to achieve climate neutrality (zero greenhouse gas emissions) by 2030 and to inspire other cities to follow their example by 2050. The EU Mission Label was awarded to Lemesos Municipality on 23 March 2024.
